You know how you hear something so much that it begins to lose meaning?

You hear the words, but don’t act on them because surely there’s something new to hear. I’m pretty sure that’s what is happening to my two favorite ways to keep kids healthy during flu season.

Now I know home schooling spares my kids from a lot of germs, but we go to church every Sunday and have a play date from time to time. And I know that two steps we all practice regularly are a huge part of how we stay healthy.

Today, Essential Oils are all the buzz. Indeed, they are great! I have used them myself for headaches, sinus trouble, and pain. However, they are also expensive! And need to be used correctly.

Right now, I want to talk to the mom who doesn’t have a ton of money to drop on expensive Essential Oils or home made immune-boosting-tinctures.

Don’t despair! There is something you can do affordably to keep sickness at bay!

Phagocytes are cells in the body that literally eat or destroy other harmful cells. Bacteria, dying cells, etc are all found and destroyed (eaten) by the Phagocyte cells in your body. Cool, right? Phagocytes are like the little police officers of your immune system! Only, instead of merely hauling off the dangerous cells, the Phagocytes have the authority to demolish those dangerous cells right there on the spot to rid your body of them.

You know what your Phagocyte cells need to perform their task well?? Go ahead… make a guess…

Vitamin C!!! Yup, good ole’ Vitamin C!

Keep kids healthy during flu season underestimated truth #1. This vitamin C right here, costs about $9 for 150 chewables! Do they have a bunch of non-organic ingredients in them? Yup! Will they still provide your Phagocytes what they need to perform their bad-bacteria-destroying ability… yup! Is having something powerful in your arsenal to keep your kids healthy, even though it isn’t 100% organic, better than doing nothing because you can’t afford expensive oils and organic-home-made-syrups and tinctures… yup!

Keep kids healthy during flu season truth #2 that is so powerful but loses meaning because we hear it so much: wash your hands! Like, before meal time, right? No… wash your hands all. the. time!

I am the only mom.

I am the only mom I see take my kids to the bathroom at church before we leave the building to wash their hands. Whatever germs they picked up while they were there will be washed down the sink. Maybe they already stuck their hands near their face and nasty germs have already found their way in… maybe not. Either way, I’m washing those buggers off before we even leave the building!

Just came home from grocery shopping… wash your hands. Friends just left from a play date… wash your hands. Leaving a friends house from a play date… wash your hands. Just left a restaurant… wash your hands. Come in from playing outside in the dirt… nah, you can leave the dirt on a while! It has immune boosting microbes!

Take Vitamin C! Whatever Vitamin C your family can afford. We all have varying levels of financial ability to work with. Don’t beat yourself up because it’s not organic. You are doing what you can do! Buy it. Take it. Protect your kids with it.

Wash their hands. Don’t be concerned with over washing. Kids are germ-magnets! Trust me, they’ll quickly pick up more germs. You don’t need to be concerned with them not being exposed to enough germs to build immunity! The germs and microbes in the earth and all around them are a sufficient supply. But you definitely want to wash whatever funky stuff is on their hands.. OFF!! And… hand washing is free!! Woo Hoo!

So, how do you keep your kids healthy? Let me know in the comments below… Elderberry Syrup like this? Essential oils like this on the feet? Diffuser like this one?
